Step-by-Step Guide

1. Prepare Your Work Area

Ensure your caravan is on a level surface and safely secured. Engaging the handbrake will prevent any movement during the process , place a ground sheet or tarp under the stabilizer this will help keeping your tools and parts clean from debris, also a kneeling pad is advisable.


2. Remove the Front Friction Pads

  1. Open the stabilizer handle fully to release pressure on the pads.

  2. Remove the red cover from the front of the stabilizer

  3. Locate the two access bolts on the front of the stabilizer housing.

  4. Using a T30 or /T27 Torx Key/screwdriver , carefully loosen and remove the bolts.

  5. The worn pads should now be accessible—use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry them out if necessary. or place the screwdriver through the front access scew holes to pop out the front pad.

3. Install the New Front Friction Pads

  1. Insert the new pads into position, ensuring they are seated correctly.

  2. Secure them by tightening the front screws back in place.

  3. Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified setting (typically around 90Nm, but always check AL-KO’s guidelines).


4. Remove the Rear Friction Pads

  1. Locate the rear friction pad access points on the underside of the stabilizer.

  2. Using the T30/T27 Torx Key, loosen and remove the securing screw make sure the black hitch handle is lifted as this will make it easier .

  3. Remove the worn pads carefully.


5. Install the New Rear Friction Pads

  1. Insert the new pads and ensure they sit correctly in their housing.

  2. Re-secure them with the scew, tightening them with the torque wrench to the correct setting.

6. Final Checks

  • Engage and disengage the stabilizer handle a few times to ensure smooth operation.

  • Clean the hitch head using a cloth and brake cleaner to remove any grease or debris, as friction pads work best on a clean surface.

  • Test the stabilizer by hitching up your caravan and checking for secure contact between the pads and the hitch.
